This year's adventures started in Alaska. I headed up to the Arctic Circle to meet some new friends and chase the Northern Lights. I had a couple of epic nights of shooting in -10 degrees and saw some of the best lights I've been able to shoot.
Next up was a spring backpacking trip in Canyonlands National Park in Utah. After a quick trip to Deadhorse State Park, I headed into the Needles district for an otherworldly experience.
After the backpacking trip, I took the long way home hitting many more incredible Utah destinations like Goblin Valley State Park, Arches NP, Zion NP and Bryce Canyon NP. I even snuck in a stop at Petrified Forest NP in Arizona. More to come on all of those. #neverenoughtime LOL!!
May found me back on the Pacific Crest Trail knocking off more miles and meeting more amazing people. I am still processing all of my photos from the five months and 900 miles on trail. Here is what I have for you so far!
I celebrated my 55th birthday in September on top of Mount Whitney. This was the culmination of a 10 year dream to hike the John Muir Trail. I was flooded with emotions standing there alone at the top of the highest mountain in the lower 48 and thinking about how far I had come and much I have accomplished this year. I had truly reached new heights physically, emotionally and professionally.
October found me leaf peeping in Colorado. It was such a great change to go sightseeing in my car instead of powered by my own legs. LOL Colorado was beautiful and luckily I hit it right at peak color. I was able to hang out with family and see some new parts of Colorado.
I spent November in my home base of California. It's always nice to get back to the beach. I love the weather here and the beach is one of my happy places.
I brought in the new year back in Utah with my extended family. It was so nice to be with loved ones again this year.
We added a lot of new faces here in 2021 and I am so grateful for all of you that are following along on my crazy adventures. I am humbled by all of your support and you are the reason that I am able to continue pursuing all of the remote corners of nature that bring me so much joy.
I have a lot of exciting plans already for 2022. I am headed back to Alaska in a couple of weeks and will, of course, be returning to the PCT to try to finish my remaining miles. I have a couple of surprises up my sleeve too, so stay tuned! I wish you much happiness and health in the new year. I love hearing from you so reach out and stay in touch!
Much love,
Debbie
